Pelling - Best Place To Enjoy Mount Khangchendzonga

Pelling is a tourist town in the west districts of tiny Himalayan state of Sikkim. The town of Pelling is famous for it's magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains of Kanchenjunga and its ranges it has a rich history, nature environment and local culture. Pelling is as close as you can get to Kanchenjunga without leaving the material comfort of good hotels and due to its advantageous location, many hotels and lodges have established in and around Pelling.

The town is located at a distance of 10 km from the West district headquarters of Geyzing. A regular bus service connects the two towns.
 

Sightseeing Locations at Pelling

  • Rimbi Water Falls :
    About 12kms away from Pelling and about 5kms further down from Darap village is Rimbi River Bank which falls on the way to Khecheopalri and Yuksam where the main attractions are the river, waterfalls, oldest Hydel power station, Sewaro rock garden and the village. Waterfalls is spectacular in summer that attract many waterfalls lovers.
     
  • Sewaro Rock Garden :
    Sewaro Rock Garden is developed by the tourism department of Sikkim, richly maintained with rocks, gardens, pools, zigzag foot paths and interesting recreation amenities like swimming yard, viewpoints and cafeteria. The location is near Rimbi Water Fall. This has now come up as one of the popular picnic spots for the locals in Sikkim where many local picnic parties arrive in winter.
     
  • Khangchendzonga Waterfalls :
    About 28kms from Pelling and about 16kms further than Rimbi and 5kms before Yuksam is Khangchendzonga Waterfalls which is situated at a sharp curve on the road side. The falls being very big in size and equally attractive throughout the year, it has become one of the leading tourist spots in west Sikkim.
     
  • Khecheopalri Lake :
    Khecheopalri Lake, originally known as Kha-Chot-Palri (meaning the heaven of Padmasambhava), is a sacred Lake for both Buddhists and Hindus, which is believed to be a wish fulfilling lake. It is located near Khecheopalri village, 34 kilometers to the northwest of Pelling town in the West Sikkim district.
     
  • Darap Villege :
    Darap in West Sikkim is a village tourism destination close to more popular Pelling.
     
  • Sangachoeling Monastery :
    Distance 2 kms from Pelling is the second oldest monastery in Sikkim built in the year 1695 by Lhatsun Namkha Zigme situated on a hill amidst thick pine forest opposite to Pemayangtse monastery.
     
  • Rabdantse Ruins :
    Rabdentse was the second capital of the former kingdom of Sikkim from 1670 to 1814. The capital city was destroyed by the invading Nepalese Gurkha army and only the ruins of the palace and the chortens are seen here now. However, the ruins of this city are seen close to Pelling and in West Sikkim district in the Northeastern Indian state of present day Sikkim; Pemayangtse Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim which is close to the ruins.
     
  • Tashiding Monastery :
    Tashiding Monastery is a Buddhist monastery of the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism in Western Sikkim, northeastern India. It is located on top of the hill rising between the Rathong chu and the Rangeet River.
     
  • Shingshore Bridge :
    SHINGSHORE SUSPENSION BRIDGE is the second highest suspension bridge in entire Asia. It was built strategically in the early nineties with the intention to bridge the two big hillocks between which flows Shingsore stream about 680 fts below. The bridge is considered a engineering marvel in Sikkim.
     
  • Pemayangtse Monastery :
    Pemayangtse Monastery is not to be missed. On the top floor is a magnificent, impossibly intricate, seven-tiered wooden sculpture that portrays guru rimpoche's heavenly palace.
     
  • Yuksom :
    Yuksom is a historical town in Geyzing subdivision of West Sikkim district in the Northeast Indian state of Sikkim. It was the first capital of Sikkim established in 1642 AD by Phuntsog Namgyal who was the first Chogyal (temporal and religious king) of Sikkim. The coronation site of the first monarch of Sikkim is known as the "Throne of Norbugang". Yuksom is where there is the Norbugang Chorten near the Norbugang throne, the place Namgyal was crowned and several monasteries and a lake.
